It has been a while since my last post.  I have been struggling a bit with time management. Technology is also an issue I find I am spending a great deal of time reviewing new technologies which I was unaware of previously and have had to familiarize myself with for academic peurposes.  I have also found that I do not particulary care for on-line courses, I prefer the interaction of a traditional classroom setting especially when working in groups.  There is a real process in selecting working partners that is inhibited by the on-line atmosphere.

On a lighter note my work out has suffered severely since starting school.  Got to find a way to get back in the gym.

Imagine trying to find a partner when you are on other sides of the world?
This was the experience from my previous grad program. During the first year I was in China, working with others from South Africa, Sweden, and Canada. It was a real pain in time management, but we all learned the lesson of global communications.
However, it wasn't a complete learning experience for me. So, I tend to agree with you regarding online classes. Even after earning an MA and writing a thesis, I still don't feel that I have fostered the same academic strengths as I would have if I was in a more traditional program.
The bottom line is that elearning is here to stay, so this time around I am trying to really find a way to grasp the issue.
Good luck!

"E-learning is here to stay" is a very accurate statement from Kevin, and one that student will need to accept. I agree with both of you that online courses are difficult to deal with at times and that the traditional classroom is much more conducive to learning and interacting with your fellow classmates. I have to believe that as more and more schools/universities begin to implement online courses, the software and/or application will continue to work out their kinks and become more user friendly. It is a bit of a process, especially for first time users, but with some patience and a little guidance we should all get through this course having learned a lot.

What needs to be researched from the instrucational design perspective is considering the audience. Just because the technology is there, doesn't mean all will embrace it. We need to think of how to BEST design online instruction that fits different learning styles. My goal is to find the critical research on students like Mike who dont really enjoy online learning.
My first response, Questioning that its a matter of attitude, I think really misses the point.
Something else perhaps might be missing.
