Grad School

I have just completed my first week of graduate school and I have to say it went better than expected.  I was surprised at how fast some things returned although others still escape me.  The course work is interesting, I find it requires a lot more thought than the corporate world.  I have heard that saying "we want independent thinkers people who can think outside the box" not really though, the establishment loves conformity.  I do have one question and if any of you can help me out I would appreciate it.  Graduate school is expensive anyone have any ideas on other sources of funding?

Hi Mike, I've often wondered how people afford grad school as well. I've met many folks like me who work for an employer (a college or university) that pays for some/all of the tuition costs... I'm curious about how others manage as well...

Elle do you work for SU or another institution with reciprocal benefits? I have been looking into GA-ships with little luck to date most of this years assistantships were posted last year and filled over the summer. Amazingly enough the government offers you loans in about the exact amount the school charges!

Mike, the cost of this program has really been a big source for me. In a way I expect to have access to an assistantship as well, and have asked several times about it.
My decision to attend was based on the fact that I could either keep doing what I was doing (not really making much, or happy with my job), or just bite the bullet, take on the debt, and at least feel like I am doing something more than spinning my wheels.

Either way, the loan payment at the end I feel is no comparison to the opportunity to learn in a traditional academic environment.
